Super 7s 75 from Virtual Quilter

Simple layout … but I love the effect!

I like the second design, but compared to the first one it is rather ugly.

Quilting Julianne’s Star 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

The virtual quilting in the design above I would do with a contrast thread, and in the spaces that look like they are not quilted, I would use similar quilting but in a thread to match the background.

I love both the designs today but I think the second one wins my popularity contest.

Beetaloo Logs 36, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

This project file uses just one block … the basic Log Cabin block, using a centre plus four rounds of strips.

The size of the centre square and width of the strips determines the size of the quilt. The designs in this collection would be a queen size quilt if the blocks start with cutting a 1.5 inch square and strips 1.5 inches wide, with the finished block size 9 inches.

I wonder how many different designs could be created by turning the blocks every which way?

Adding multiple colours to the mix would introduce many more variations!

With ...

Log Cabin Mix 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

There are some very interesting designs in this project file!

I have included most of the Log Cabin blocks I have in my collection, and added an interesting colour combination.

I like the one above! But wait … there are a couple more to go for this weeks mid week just for quilters.

WOW!

There are a lot of possibilities when you start playing with even pretty basic Log Cabin variations!

That is all for this week’s mid week quilters short break from the mad world around us … more mid week, next week.

Log Cabin Baby Blocks 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Baby Blocks become the stars in this project file!

The diamond shapes can be pieced separately in two pieces, which deleted some set in corners in some places in the design above, but not all of them.

There are so many ways to arrange the baby blocks … so little time to play with them to find more of the ways!

I like to see stars in a dark sky, which means I also like using dark backgrounds around stars in quilts.

Wow, a spinning star! Well, the centre bit is spinning.

More Log Cabin designs mid week next week.

Less Logs in the Cabin 101, 102, 103, 104, 105 from Virtual Quilter

Using less logs around the centre square saves a lot of time in making a block, and it makes a big difference to the design. I thought it might make the overall design less effective,, but now I think it looks more effective.

I love the design above … and the one below!

Not a big difference between the two, but effective.

The one above is very interesting

The last one is also very interesting, and below is the group photo of today’s designs.

There will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Interesting, but too busy for me.

That’s better!

The Patchwork Planner 2 from Virtual Quilter

A very simple block today from The Patchwork Planner by Birte Hilberg, drafted on a 3×3 grid.

I started by adding the block to a quilt layout and got a very simple overall design.

I couldn’t leave it like that for long.

More interesting, and could be more interesting with more colours added, but I am sticking with black and white, but I will turn the design above inside out.

I like this one, and there is room for colours to be added too.

A different colour could be added to the inside of those squares!

The one ...

Logs on the Pile 91, 92, 93, 94, 95 from Virtual Quilter

This project file has been in hiding for a few years, but there are still some interesting designs waiting to get their moment in the spotlight. The one above is interesting.

Love the second design.

Spaces in the one above for quilting to be shown off.

Another interesting design above. It would make an interesting mystery quilt as there are several ways to arrange the blocks, and I think I might have to have a bit of a play later today to see what else I could do with the blocks.

The last design for today is very interesting too ...

Burgoyne Tangled with Irish 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

This project file is Burgoyne Surrounded by Irish recoloured. Much prettier than the original!

The mixture of shapes is still interesting, and much more suitable for the lady of the house.

PJ 1111 Spinning Round 1, 2, 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

A simple 4P block spins around creating a 8×8 Patch block. I wonder how man ways it can spin!

Exactly the same arrangement, but with two colours. These first two designs are modified Drunkards Path, and there are a lot more ways to modify them.

Interesting!

I like the last design, and might one day get around to playing with colour in this design, and others.

9P Night Vision 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

These designs all have Nine Patch blocks with identical corner squares, a vision I had one sleepless midnight hour. There are lots of possible corner blocks which create s filler design right across the quilt top. They become the background design when the other five squares are added to the mix.

I like the colouring in the first design best, but like the second design overall design best.

Cornerstone Logs + Hot Pinks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Playing with this project over the next few months could help me believe that it is warm outside, but I doubt it! Cold weather affects my body enough to remind me what the weather is like even without looking outside. However, I love the colours, and the designs are heart warming.

Love the second one!

The one above is interesting!

Another interesting design.

I love the last one for today, and for this week’s Log Cabin retreat.

More Log Cabin variations mid week, next week.

Stars on Tatiara Terrace 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

I like the colours in this series, green, green and green. It works because of the contrast.

I find it hard to pick a favourite between these two designs.
